Some useful references

The classic and definitive text on the Stainmore Railway is Peter Walton's book 'The Stainmore and Eden Valley Railways: Pictorial History of the Barnard Castle to Tebay and Penrith Lines' published by Oxford Publishing Company in 1992. Unfortunately it has been out of print for about ten years. Copies are often available on Amazon and through other internet suppliers but expect to pay £70 to £100
Another useful text on the railway - the first to be written - is Ken Hoole's 'The Stainmore Railway' published by Dalesman Books in 1975. This too has become a collector's item but a copy can usually be found on the Internet for around £15-£30
SRC volunteer Keith Richardson has written an excellently researched book 'Kirkby Stephen East: A Station Remembered' published by the Stainmore Railway Company in 2007. This is available by post for £11.50, please see here for details.
